Most residents and visitors take to the water one way or another. Stroll along ego alley to admire the impressive lineup of yachts and sailboats. Then take in a sparkling water view at Annapolis City Dock. This is also the spot to catch fireworks on New Year's Eve and the 4th of July. Take a few minutes to pause at the Kuta Quinte Alex Haley Memorial, which commemorates the arrival place of an enslaved African. Quinte. The memorial is inspired by the 1976 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel roots, the saga of an American family by Alex Haley. The picturesque historic district of Annapolis is full of 18th century brick houses and other historical landmarks. The Maryland State House is the oldest US state Capitol in continuous legislative use. Dating back to 1772. The nearby Romanesque style St. Anne's Episcopal Church has Tiffany Glass windows and an historic cemetery. Annapolis is also home to the prestigious United States Naval Academy, which has been training officers for the US Navy and Marine Corps since 1845. The Naval Academy offers guided tours and attractions like the Naval Academy Museum, the Naval Academy Chapel, the Navy Marine Corps, Memorial Stadium, and more just down the streets. It's another highly regarded institution. St. John's College, which was founded in 1696, and is the third oldest college in the United States.
